Brits are famous for being holiday lovers. Every year thousands of us embark on city breaks or longer holidays in search of new experiences to love and share. Earlier this year, 80% of women taking part in a Valentine’s Day survey declared that going away for a romantic hideaway would be their preferred gift. With travelling now so accessible, any occasion has become a reason to pack our bags.

However, over the years the travel industry has changed dramatically. The internet and the rise of cheap airlines as well as all-inclusive holidays has changed not only the way we book our getaways, but even where we go and what we do while we are there. Trying to map this change, we took a look at what has changed over the last 100 years. Some of the results were quite surprising.
