With organisations across virtually every industry utilising some form of digital technology, the use of the phrase digital transformation is no longer a foreign concept. Yet, despite its widespread implementation, it’s a phrase that still causes anxiety amongst [80%](https://applearn.com/insights/helping-employees-overcome-their-fear-of-failing-with-new-technologies/) of the workforce. As the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged the acceleration of new technologies amongst 47% of business leaders, with 29% developing plans to digitise in the future, this warrants a new conversation around the role of the human workforce.

Amongst the most widely adopted technologies is cloud-based software, which, hand-in-hand with interoperability, allows enterprises to experience vast efficiency gains, cost savings, and improved customer service. Many organisations are also using this technology to digitise their supply chain, with the introduction of [artificial intelligence](https://www.financedigest.com/types-of-artificial-intelligence.html "Types of artificial intelligence") (AI) and big data expanding companies’ potential with the ability to automate nearly 80% of work and 70% of data processing.

Interestingly, this means that businesses’ capacity to make informed decisions has never been greater. With enhanced [insight into consumer](https://www.financedigest.com/incoming-starbucks-boss-to-bring-consumer-insight-to-coffee-culture.html "Incoming Starbucks boss to bring consumer insight to coffee culture") behaviour, businesses can utilise this information to tailor their services and inform future planning. Not only does this generate greater growth [opportunities for the business](https://www.financedigest.com/challenger-banks-missing-golden-opportunity-to-steal-business-from-competitors-by-repeating-same-old-mistakes.html "Challenger Banks Missing Golden Opportunity To Steal Business From Competitors By Repeating Same Old Mistakes"), but it also empowers the workforce to transition their roles from more onerous, time-consuming tasks towards impactful and more fulfilling contributions within their company.

**The value of data**

Digitally led automation, such as the introduction of OCR software, has become a [driving force](https://www.financedigest.com/rapid-action-force-regarding-innovations-to-drive-the-medical-devices-market.html "Rapid Action Force regarding Innovations to drive the Medical Devices Market") for process optimisation across organisations. One of the primary benefits lies within its ability to eliminate time-consuming manual tasks, such as data-entry, re-keying, and administration. As these tasks form the foundation for many employees’ roles, it is understandable that individuals may feel a level of anxiety [around automation](https://www.financedigest.com/5-common-mistakes-around-accounts-payable-automation.html "5 Common Mistakes Around Accounts Payable Automation"). However, in practice, automation [creates a plethora of possibilities that show workforce anxiety around the purpose of their roles](https://www.financedigest.com/banning-russian-aluminium-would-create-uncertainty-about-lmes-role-rusal.html "Banning Russian aluminium would create uncertainty about LME’s role -Rusal") needn’t increase.

Primarily, increased access to data analytics means that employees are free to take on less monotonous roles in place of a more rewarding career, for example, roles in strategy development and operational management that would allow staff to drive fundamental changes [across the business](https://www.financedigest.com/fintechs-support-of-ukraines-digital-businesses-can-be-used-as-blueprint-across-the-world.html "Fintech’s support of Ukraine’s digital businesses can be used as blueprint across the world"). They could also become involved in the product ideation process to [improve the business’](https://www.financedigest.com/improve-your-business-while-saving-the-planet-and-your-back-with-easycat.html "Improve your business while saving the planet and your back with EasyCat") current service offering.

Not only does this [improve employees’ daily productivity](https://www.financedigest.com/workplace-planning-software-cuts-costs-and-improves-employee-wellbeing-and-productivity-a-win-win-for-all.html "Workplace planning software cuts costs and improves employee wellbeing and productivity – a win-win for all") and efficiency but it also provides greater scope for progression. This enhanced digital capability can help [develop new skillsets and provide career](https://www.financedigest.com/developing-your-career-with-online-classes.html "Developing Your Career With Online Classes") opportunities that would have previously been unattainable. However, wider managerial [support and flexibility is required to underpin this employee](https://www.financedigest.com/how-to-manage-burnout-and-how-leaders-should-support-employee-wellbeing-tom-keya.html "How to manage burnout and how leaders should support employee wellbeing | Tom Keya") development alongside a smoother transition to new technologies and processes.

**Organisational potential**

Amidst the current economic backdrop, businesses are facing vast [cost restrictions and financial](https://www.financedigest.com/how-much-does-cloud-based-financial-software-cost.html "How Much Does Cloud-based Financial Software Cost?") pressures. However, software can provide valuable insight into [customer behaviours and across other areas of the organisation which can be used to inform operations](https://www.financedigest.com/australias-qantas-apologises-to-customers-for-operational-problems.html "Australia’s Qantas apologises to customers for operational problems") and build a more effective strategy. This data also offers insight into which areas of the business are delivering a better return on investment, and therefore where resources should be [scaled back](https://www.financedigest.com/mifid-ii-why-you-should-not-scale-back-your-implementation-efforts.html "MIFID II: WHY YOU SHOULD NOT SCALE BACK YOUR IMPLEMENTATION EFFORTS") or reallocated to maximise profit. These [data insights provide enterprises with greater flexibility to respond to changing](https://www.financedigest.com/stocks-dollar-little-changed-as-inflation-data-sends-mixed-signals.html "Stocks, dollar little changed as inflation data sends mixed signals") circumstances and remain competitive in a challenging marketplace.

One of the key drivers for long-term [technological change](https://www.financedigest.com/how-to-take-the-pain-out-of-technology-change.html "How to take the pain out of technology change") within enterprises is AI. As these systems continually learn and adapt to the requirements of the organisation over time, it will play an increasingly [important role in how businesses](https://www.financedigest.com/the-importance-of-property-care-looking-after-your-business.html "The Importance of Property Care: Looking After Your Business") interact with customers, stakeholders, and employees alike.

[**Customer preferences**](https://www.financedigest.com/loyalty-subscription-services-and-the-importance-of-customer-preferences-in-modern-banking.html "Loyalty, Subscription services and the importance of customer preferences in modern banking")

Advanced technologies highlight the value of the [human touch](https://www.financedigest.com/putting-the-human-touch-back-into-banking-magazine.html "“Putting the human touch back into banking”-Magazine") within the workforce, and this is particularly true within customer service. Our research into the attitudes of business leaders towards digital transformation found that [90%](https://www.bluqube.co.uk/digital-transformation-report-2022) believe that human touch within customer service is increasingly important alongside new technology – 40% of business leaders even described this as a ‘100% mission critical focus.’

Throughout the pandemic, customers across almost every [industry experienced depleted customer service](https://www.financedigest.com/matching-digital-adoption-with-cybersecurity-in-the-financial-services-industry.html "Matching digital adoption with cybersecurity in the financial services industry") levels. Now, as businesses and individuals [face the challenges](https://www.financedigest.com/under-saved-and-underprepared-women-face-challenges-saving-for-retirement.html "UNDER-SAVED AND UNDERPREPARED: WOMEN FACE CHALLENGES SAVING FOR RETIREMENT") of the economic climate, the requirement for efficient customer service teams has arguably never been more important.

As [technology collects and stores](https://www.financedigest.com/how-is-modern-technology-shaping-our-in-store-experience.html "How Is Modern Technology Shaping Our In Store Experience?") valuable insight, organisations can use this information to improve future customer experiences. Whether this means adapting procedures based on recurring scenarios, or equipping businesses with the resource saved from manual data entry and repetitive tasks to [appoint dedicated customer service teams](https://www.financedigest.com/the-digital-voice-appointed-by-raft-of-new-clients-as-its-team-expands-by-270.html "The Digital Voice™ appointed by raft of new clients as its team expands by 270%"). In turn, this [supports business](https://www.financedigest.com/how-banks-will-evolve-to-support-small-business-owners.html "How banks will evolve to support small business owners") leaders’ desire for the human influence and makes organisations more likely to increase their competitive standing.

**The human outlook**

[Digital transformation encompasses a variety of new technologies with transformative applications](https://www.financedigest.com/digital-transformation-for-the-world-of-finance-the-rise-in-collaboration-tools-and-saas-applications.html "Digital transformation for the world of finance: The rise in collaboration tools and SaaS applications "). However, employees that are still unsure of what this [transformation means](https://www.financedigest.com/making-sure-that-finservs-digital-transformation-doesnt-mean-digital-exclusion.html "Making sure that FinServ’s digital transformation doesn’t mean digital exclusion") for their careers must remember that its benefits do not solely apply to enterprises. Corporate digitisation and the human workforce must work in tandem with one another for [technology](https://www.financedigest.com/working-with-both-human-ai-and-graph-technology-to-combat-money-laundering.html "Working with Both ‘Human’ AI and Graph Technology to Combat Money Laundering") to work to the best of its ability. As a result, this is an exciting time for employees to advance their own [roles and capabilities and develop a data-led skillset to use as a launchpad for exceeding their career](https://www.financedigest.com/the-rise-of-the-paraplanner-why-consider-a-career-in-this-up-and-coming-role.html "The rise of the paraplanner: why consider a career in this up and coming role") potential.
