JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel does not anticipate a renewal of Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers before the U.S. mid-term elections in November, an Israeli official said on Sunday, after European parties to the negotiations voiced frustration with Tehran.

Having supported then-U.S. [President Donald Trump’s](https://www.financedigest.com/over-a-third-of-uk-people-think-thomas-whitmore-from-independence-day-will-be-joined-by-donald-trump-in-disneys-hall-of-presidents.html "Over a third of UK people think Thomas Whitmore from Independence Day will be joined by Donald Trump in Disney’s Hall of Presidents") withdrawal from a 2015 Iranian nuclear deal which it deemed too limited, Israel has similarly been advocating against the re-entry sought by the current U.S. administration.

On Saturday, Britain, France and Germany said they had “serious doubts” about [Iran’s](https://www.financedigest.com/frances-thales-to-buy-imperva-in-3-6-billion-cybersecurity-deal.html "France’s Thales to buy Imperva in .6 billion cybersecurity deal") intentions after it tried to link a revival of the deal with a closure of U.N. [watchdog probes into uranium traces at three of its nuclear](https://www.financedigest.com/uks-competition-watchdog-to-examine-edf-buying-ges-nuclear-turbine-unit.html "UK’s competition watchdog to examine EDF buying GE’s nuclear turbine unit") sites.

Tehran [called the European](https://www.financedigest.com/four-european-countries-call-for-special-treatment-of-defence-in-eu-debt-rules-document.html "Four European countries call for special treatment of defence in EU debt rules – document") statement “unconstructive.

At this point in time, it appears that a nuclear [agreement with Iran will not be signed](https://www.financedigest.com/japan-uk-to-sign-reciprocal-access-agreement-for-military-officers-yomiuri.html "Japan, UK to sign reciprocal access agreement for military officers -Yomiuri") at least until after the (U.S.) mid-term [elections,” the Israeli official](https://www.financedigest.com/quebecs-elected-officials-must-swear-oath-to-king-charles-to-sit-in-national-assembly.html "Quebec’s elected officials must swear oath to King Charles to sit in National Assembly") told reporters on condition of anonymity.

Some Israeli commentators saw the remark as anticipating reluctance by U.S. President Joe Biden to enter a [deal close](https://www.financedigest.com/greece-britain-discussing-parthenon-sculptures-return-but-deal-not-close-athens-says.html "Greece, Britain discussing Parthenon Sculptures return but deal not close, Athens says") enough to the vote for Republican rivals to use it in their domestic campaigns against his Democratic Party.

Briefing the Israeli cabinet on Sunday, [Prime Minister](https://www.financedigest.com/economist-odor-picked-as-slovakias-caretaker-prime-minister.html "Economist Odor picked as Slovakia’s caretaker prime minister") Yair Lapid thanked the European powers “for their forthright stand.

Israel is conducting a successful diplomatic drive to halt the nuclear [deal and prevent](https://www.financedigest.com/eu-seeks-deal-on-law-preventing-import-of-deforestation-linked-goods.html "EU seeks deal on law preventing import of deforestation-linked goods") the lifting of sanction on Iran,” he said. “It’s not over yet. The road is long. But there are encouraging signs.”

Iran, which denies [seeking nuclear](https://www.financedigest.com/france-seeks-strategy-as-nuclear-waste-site-risks-saturation-point.html "France seeks strategy as nuclear waste site risks saturation point") arms, has since the U.S. walkout itself breached the 2015 deal with ramped-up uranium enrichment, a process that can create bomb fuel down the line.

Israel is not a party to the Vienna talks. But its worries about Iran and threats to take military action against its arch-foe if it deems diplomacy a [dead end](https://www.financedigest.com/putin-says-peace-talks-with-ukraine-are-at-dead-end-goads-the-west.html "Putin says peace talks with Ukraine are at dead end, goads the West") keep Western capitals attentive.
