Many people are getting back into the groove of their normal, post-pandemic life. Gone are the days of mandatory working from home and zoom quizzes.

With the world starting to resemble its pre-pandemic self, the world of [work is also starting to revert to its old ways](https://www.financedigest.com/five-ways-to-keep-your-head-above-water-while-working-from-home.html "Five ways to keep your head above water while working from home"). Many are now [returning to the office on a fulltime basis and face-to-face meetings](https://www.financedigest.com/despite-return-to-work-virtual-meetings-will-continue-to-disrupt-business-as-usual-in-finance.html "Despite Return to Work, Virtual Meetings Will Continue to Disrupt Business as Usual in Finance") are resuming.

With the working [world back](https://www.financedigest.com/analysis-at-world-cup-saudi-crown-prince-moves-back-on-to-global-stage.html "Analysis-At World Cup, Saudi crown prince moves back on to global stage") to some sense of normality, it would be easy for business leaders to abandon all the new, workplace benefits they introduced over the last two years. Instead, [business leaders should consider](https://www.financedigest.com/7-factors-to-consider-before-your-business-moves-to-a-subscription-model.html "7 Factors to Consider Before Your Business Moves to a Subscription Model") adapting and replacing these perks in order to keep employees motivated and engaged in their current role. If not, they could fall victim to the ‘Great Resignation’ and risk losing their [top talent](https://www.financedigest.com/5-steps-hiring-top-talent-youre-just-start.html "5 steps to hiring top talent when you’re just a start-up ").

**The importance of work perks during the pandemic**

During the pandemic, [43 per cent of business leaders](https://www.forbes.com/sites/samanthatodd/2021/07/09/how-covid-affected-employee-perks-and-what-they-will-look-like-post-pandemic/?sh=579d7dfc233c) added new perks to their benefits packages. Some rewarded employees with flexi-working hours, while others found creative ways to engage its remote workforce, such as [investment bank Jefferies which offered its employees Pelotons to help them look after their health](https://www.financedigest.com/breaking-the-stigma-men-and-mental-health-in-the-world-of-investments.html "Breaking the Stigma: Men and Mental Health in the World of Investments") while working from home. These were all used as tools to keep employees motivated at the height of the [global pandemic](https://www.financedigest.com/how-to-improve-sales-during-a-global-pandemic.html "How to improve sales during a global pandemic").

Alongside keeping employees engaged at work, updating overall [business benefits also helped companies](https://www.financedigest.com/keeping-an-eye-on-company-purse-strings-where-do-businesses-go-wrong.html "Keeping an eye on company purse strings – where do businesses go wrong?") differentiate themselves from each other. With a majority of employees working from home, there were no [city centre](https://www.financedigest.com/why-are-there-so-few-apartments-to-rent-in-liverpool-city-centre.html "Why are there so few apartments to rent in Liverpool city centre?") offices, snack stations and Friday drinks to differentiate between different companies – just the actual work each employee was doing.

Offering perks such as flexi-hours, wellness days and access to mental health support and resources helped [companies stand out and gave their employees a reason to continue working with their current employer](https://www.financedigest.com/why-more-companies-are-asking-new-employees-to-commence-employment-before-christmas.html "Why more companies are asking new employees to commence employment BEFORE Christmas."), over another company.

**Work perks in today’s [world](https://www.financedigest.com/the-evolving-world-of-trade-finance-optimize-working-capital-with-distributed-ledgers.html "The Evolving World Of Trade Finance: Optimize Working Capital With Distributed Ledgers") of work**

Many companies went above and beyond to help their employees during the [Covid-19 pandemic](https://www.financedigest.com/pandemic-restrictions-that-hampered-the-circulation-of-viruses-other-than-covid-19.html "Pandemic restrictions that hampered the circulation of viruses other than COVID-19"). While some of the benefits that were introduced during Covid played a huge part in helping people through it, these same benefits [might not be relevant in today’s world](https://www.financedigest.com/explainer-how-the-world-health-organization-might-fight-future-pandemics.html "Explainer-How the World Health Organization might fight future pandemics") of work.

One being fully [remote working](https://www.financedigest.com/shoring-up-cyber-defences-in-the-remote-working-era.html "Shoring up cyber defences in the remote working era"). Adapting a [business’s remote working policy is key to ensuring everyone is in a position to learn and grow](https://www.financedigest.com/5-ways-to-grow-your-business-despite-a-bad-credit-score.html "5 Ways to Grow Your Business despite a Bad Credit Score") in their careers in the post-pandemic world, while also offering a more flexible working arrangement that works for more employees and working parents. The key lies in balancing the response to remote working by tailoring it to suit the [needs of the individuals as well as the needs of the team and business](https://www.financedigest.com/4-kinds-of-software-your-new-business-needs.html "4 Kinds of Software Your New Business Needs") clients.

Furthermore, the emerging cost of living crisis, [where around nine in 10 (87%) adults reported an increase in their cost of living over the previous month in March 2022](https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/personalandhouseholdfinances/expenditure/articles/therisingcostoflivinganditsimpactonindividualsingreatbritain/latest), is also likely to impact the wellbeing of many employees. Employers should look to modify the mental health initiatives that were introduced to tackle pandemic related stress/isolation, to [support with employees’](https://www.financedigest.com/5-ways-to-support-your-employees-during-the-cost-of-living-crisis.html "5 ways to support your employees during the cost of living crisis ") financial wellbeing and worries. For example, offering [access to a financial advisor or a 247 employee](https://www.financedigest.com/700000-employees-across-the-uk-have-access-to-fair-finance-will-reach-one-million-employees-in-2017.html "700,000 Employees Across The UK Have Access to Fair Finance, Will Reach One Million Employees in 2017") assistance programme.

Alternatively, some business leaders may [choose to abolish some benefits](https://www.financedigest.com/how-choosing-a-compliant-broker-benefits-traders.html "How Choosing a Compliant Broker Benefits Traders") altogether. [Business leaders](https://www.financedigest.com/copa90-owner-bigballs-media-lands-stellar-global-business-leaders-to-drive-ambitious-expansion-plans.html "Copa90 owner Bigballs Media lands stellar global business leaders to drive ambitious expansion plans") that wish to explore this option should think twice and look to replace old work perks with new ones – ones that might be more useful in the post-lockdown world. For example, halting the daily office snack deliveries, as [hybrid working](https://www.financedigest.com/how-has-hybrid-working-impacted-the-gender-gap.html "How has hybrid working impacted the gender gap?") means not everyone’s in the office five days a week, and instead introducing a once-a-month team bonding activity such as a new group experience.

**Communicating work perk updates**

Once these changes have been made, they then [need to be communicated to employees](https://www.financedigest.com/5-key-things-you-need-to-know-before-hiring-your-first-employee.html "5 Key Things You Need to Know Before Hiring Your First Employee") sensitively. It’s [crucial that business](https://www.financedigest.com/why-mobile-apps-are-crucial-for-a-successful-business.html "Why Mobile Apps are Crucial for a Successful Business") leaders adopt a fully transparent approach. This means they explain why they’re replacing or adapting an existing work perk. Furthermore, [business leaders](https://www.financedigest.com/how-leaders-can-develop-their-business-intuition.html "How Leaders Can Develop Their Business Intuition") should explain how the new perks fit within the current company culture and how they will benefit various teams.

The [key point is that although work](https://www.financedigest.com/disadvantages-key-challenges-to-overcome-when-working-from-home.html "Disadvantages – key challenges to overcome when working from home") perks need adapting, they should not be removed or forgotten, especially amid ‘The Great Resignation’. Work perks are an easy and accessible tool businesses can implement and adapt, to motivate and [engage current employees](https://www.financedigest.com/different-employee-engagement-outcomes-for-u-s-and-canadian-companies-amidst-continued-economic-growth-pressures.html "DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT OUTCOMES FOR U.S. AND CANADIAN COMPANIES AMIDST CONTINUED ECONOMIC GROWTH Pressures") and can also be used to attract new ones.
